DescriptionPeter and Vicky moved to SA 10 years ago. After seeing Packwood on their honeymoon it was an opportunity not to be missed. After years of intensive farming Packwood is now the largest commercial Jersey farm in the area, lots of fresh milk, cream, yoghurt, cheese and icecream. In 2006 Vicky and Peter planted a vineyard to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, the second vineyard in the area, we are all looking forward to the first glass in 2010. Packwood encompasses the perfect balance of beauty, tranquility and exclusivity, whilst offering guests a totally unique experience, nestled in the Garden of Eden between the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountains, Packwood boasts a magnificent position elevated above the estate, 1000 acres of green pastures, breathtaking views across the rolling fields and down to the ocean. Coupled with home from home hospitality the owners Vicky and Peter welcome you in sharing their family home and this special place called Packwood, a true taste of country living at its best. Surrounded by Knysna's Indiginous forest and National Park, a nature lovers paradise, wildlife is around you from bush buck to monkeys and if you are really lucky you may see the elusive Cape Leopard or Rooi Cat moving stelthly through the landscape, an abundance of birdlife the piercing cry of the Fish Eagle, South Africa's national bird the Blue Crane and Knysna's famous Loerie are but a few. Packwood's bountiful supply of food for the soul using produce from the estate, the Jersey herd's rich and creamy milk, extra mature cheddar cheese, a perfect marriage with Packwood's maiden vintage Sauvignon Blanc 2009 , coupled with homemade cursty bread and a crisp garden salad, just a little taste of our wholesome country cusine. The captivating feeling of Packwood had Peter and Vicky bowled over, recognising the huge potential to convert the property into what it is today a prime piece of real estate with a beautiful farm an unparalleled views. 14 years on Packwood is now home to 950 head of Jersey cattle, milking up to 450 cows per day. Deliciously rich creamy milk provides the perfect ingredient for Packwood's extra mature cheddar which is always available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In 2006 Packwood realised the potential for planting vines on the Estate, boutique in size and perfectly located, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc plantings commenced. Packwood's maiden vintage Sauvignon Blanc 2009, a fantastic result also available for breakfast, lunch and dinner With Country House accomodation and a home from home environment, mouth watering produce from the estate, what more could you want, we welcome all to Packwood in sharing this piece of paradise. Accommodation At Packwood the emphasis is on comfort and relaxation. The furnishings are colourful, warm and eclectic, and are designed to compliment the home-from-home style hospitality and organic nature of your stay. The Main House offers bed & breakfast accommodation, featuring three large en-suite rooms with individualized décor. In addition, Packwood has two self-catering cottages - with either self-catering or bed & breakfast options. MAIN HOUSE - 3 Double En-suite Rooms: Self Catering This self catering family cottage sleeps 6 people in 1 double and 2 twin rooms. There is 1 full bathroom and an additional separate wc. It features a large open-plan lounge, dining and kitchen area in addition to a large deck with fantastic views - the perfect place for catching the sun, relaxing or for a 'braai'. Packwood's vineyard was developed in 2006, working with speciailist viticulturists from Cape Town, the site was chosen after thorough investigation of soil and geographics to determine the best location. Planted at 330 metres above sea level, the rows are facing a south easterley direction which optimises air circulation. Cool climate varietals were chosen SB316, CY277 and PN115. Plettenberg Bay is attracting great interest as a wine producing area with over 16 new vineyards planted over the last 2 years. The first harvest in March 2009 of Sauvignon Blanc produced 3000 bottles, careful selection of only the best quality grapes were hand picked and then taken down to Stellenbosch. Working with wine maker Teddy Hall the finished result was just what we had hoped for, robust and complex flavours with a good nose, fruity and tropical flavours with a hint of flint, as the wine warms the flavours become more intense, not the typical aroma of grass green and granny smith apples which we are used to in a Sauvignon Blanc. With late delivery of the netting for the vines in 2009 over 60% of the first crop was lost. Damage caused by Cape White Eyes, baboons and vervet monkeys, Packwood is looking forward to its first harvest of Pinot Noir in 2010, and there are future plans to produce a pink Cap Classique (Pinot Noir/Chardonnay blend), a Pinot Noir and of course more delicious Sauvignon Blanc. By 2011 Packwood hopes to have a small cellar on the estate and to commence wine making skills RatesBed & Breakfast RATES Self Catering RATES RATES
